How Vain

ViestiKirjoittaja Annukka » 28.02.2014 08:31

How Vain

I counted dollars while God counted crosses.
I counted gains while He counted losses.
I counted my worth by the things gained in store.
But He sized me up by the scars that I bore.
I coveted honors and sought for degrees.
He wept as He counted the hours on my knees.
And I never knew till one day at a grave
how vain are the things that we spend life to save.

Pray This - Be Still and Know

BE - God, I say 'yes' to You. I choose to allow Your way to shape me and Your will to direct me in what is best. I surrender instead of resist, I yield instead of fight, I believe instead of doubt.

STILL - Father, may Your rest abide and Your peace abound within me. Quiet all anxiety that troubles my thoughts and unsettles my emotions. I bring my soul under the control of the Holy Spirit; I stand steady upon the unmovable foundations of Your kingdom; I receive the sufficiency of Your grace and the encouragement of Your promises as you calm my soul.

AND KNOW - Lord, thank you that Your word is sure, unchanging, and indisputable. Your word is true. I am certain. You have saved me from guessing, wondering, wishing, or pretending. I know! I believe!

I AM GOD - You are who You say You are. You do what You say You do. There is no other! You are the highest, the greatest, the best. You have no weakness, no lack, and no equal. You are my God, and my Heavenly Father. I find comfort in Your nearness, security in Your voice, courage in Your strength, hope in Your promises. You are enough. More than enough! You are with me. You are my refuge. I am safe in Your care.

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Psalm 46:10-11

Are You Tired? Me, Too.

Are you tired? Yeah, me, too.
Lately, it's to my core.
I know you and I are dealing with different things that exhaust us. Whether it's late-night feedings, wrapping up an important project for work or even a fun night out with a close friend, it still makes us tired.

Tired is NOT an excuse to...
be grouchy, show up late, argue with the ones you love, give up, say everything you're feeling, have a pity party, eat what ever you want, compare your life with hers, or begin to believe Jesus isn't near.

Tired IS an opportunity.
We can come to The Lord {the One who never tires} and He will give us rest. Our souls will find rest in God alone. And our bodies will follow. He will give us strength since we are weak {and tired}. Others will be astounded by our joy-filled energy in our time of need because God is our strength. We have the opportunity to draw close to God in our time of need. For the One Who Loves Us to blow new life into our weariness. Just like He has promised, Jesus will refresh our hearts.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

Messianic Petition Challenges ‘Christ at the Checkpoint’

Messianic Jews

With the third biannual Christ at the Checkpoint conference just a week away, a majority of Israeli Messianic Jews continue to find the event too politically-charged and too undergirded by anti-Semitic themes to be taken seriously as a platform for reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians, and between Jewish and Arab believers.

While many Messianics are choosing to reserve comment until after Christ at the Checkpoint, others believe the content of the previous two conferences is reason enough to speak out now, and make clear why they simply cannot participate.

The following is a petition circulated by Israeli Messianic academic, author and rabbi, Dr. David Friedman, and signed by many local and foreign Messianic leaders.

It begins with a letter addressing directly the organizers and sponsors of Christ at the Checkpoint:

To the sponsors of the Christ at the Checkpoint (CatC) Conference,

We hope you will give consideration to our objections, and not dismiss them out of hand, given their serious nature.

None of us desire a state of conflict or war between Israelis and Palestinians; however, neither do we desire to see anti-Semitic insinuations at what purports to be a reconciliation effort. And we have seen such via the first two CatC conferences.

If either Rev. Jack Sarah or Rev. Munthar Isaac [the leading organizers of CatC] desire at any point to dialogue with Dr. David Friedman regarding the anti-Semitic contents of previous conferences, such can certainly be arranged. We are saying that wide changes in the CatC approach need to occur, and some contents from past conferences need to be repudiated, in order for the anti-Semitism of past conferences to disappear.

The petition that Israeli Messianic leaders were asked to sign (along with those signatures) reads:

To the sponsors of the Christ at the Checkpoint Conference,

We, the undersigned, will not attend or support the Christ at the Checkpoint Conference because of our assessment of its anti-Semitic content and undertones. We cannot remain silent at a time like this, and as a matter of conscience, we express our serious concern for both the sponsors of this conference, and over the content, message and activities of the past two conferences.

We urge all participants to check their own hearts and minds regarding their attitude towards the Jewish people and the Jewish nation. Anti-Israel politics and political correctness have emerged as focal points of this conference, to which end the state of Israel and the Jewish people have been singled out for constant and severe criticism. The conference sponsors retain connections to pro-jihadist movements or persons, whose political stances threaten the entire Middle East. By retaining such connections, the conference has failed to uphold points #6 and #10 of its own manifesto.

As sincere believers in Messiah Yeshua, we cannot, and we will not, endorse this conference.

Sincerely, and with grave concern,

Jewish thinkers and funders need to ask themselves if the peacetime model can be continued. Is it fair or realistic to expect those who truly are impressive leaders when it comes to health, education and welfare to possess the desire, ability, temperament or skill-sets to lead us in confronting the waves of animus coming our way?

Federation heads cannot be expected to publicly lead us into confrontations with biased media and professors, or to expose Islamic radicals in our midst, when they are tasked with “big tent” fundraising which requires them not to step on the ideological sensibilities of liberal/Left donors, or merely to disturb the oh-so-many conflict-averse in our tribe. A new generation of Jews must learn to confront the new outbreak of anti-Semitism.

Anti-Semitism, in the form of anti-Israelism, now results in physical assaults on Jews in Europe and significant Jewish emigration from France.

In the Muslim realm, Jew-hatred threatens to destroy half our people with nuclear weapons. Jews are coming to understand how the deterioration of the Jewish situation in Europe might be duplicated here in America.

What indeed should we be doing? It’s time for a serious rethink.

Anti-Israel and anti-Semitic curricular materials have now become endemic in American public schools. Examples abound and are surfacing from Massachusetts to California where concerned and sometimes angry parents are reacting.

At issue is not only the insidious nature of materials that inculcate anti-Israel biases disguised as history and multicultural lessons, but also – just as has been the case too often on American campuses – the often flaccid response by educators, elected officials and sometimes the mainstream Jewish community.

American Jewish organizations came late to the problem of anti-Israelism on the campuses. If this same poison spreads to the entire public school system, America will become a very different place for its Jews.

If the major Jewish “defense agencies” (ADL, AJC, JCRCs, Federations) respond to the K-12 problem as poorly as they have responded to anti-Israelism on campus, there will be hell to pay.

Our speaker:

Charles Jacobs is head of Americans for Peace and Tolerance, which he co-founded in late 2008. Jacobs also co-founded The David Project Center for Jewish Leadership in 2002, which he led until July 2008. Jacobs is also co-founder of the American Anti-Slavery Group (1994), which campaigns against slavery worldwide, and co-chair of The Sudan Campaign (2000), a coalition calling for an end to slavery in Sudan. Earlier in his career, beginning in 1989, Jacobs served as Deputy Director of the Boston chapter of the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA). Jacobs has appeared on the major U.S. television networks, on National Public Radio, and has been published in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The New Yorker, and The Wall Street Journal.

Charles Jacobs was named by the Forward as one of America’s top 50 Jewish leaders.
